My PhD Thesis on Minsky and Financial Instability

A number of blog members have noted that they’d like to have my PhD thesis on Minsky available, as well as my more recent papers on financial instability and endogenous money.

As a first step, here is a link to my PhD thesis. It’s written in my usual style, though because it’s equation heavy, it wouldn’t qualify as bedtime reading. Early next week I hope to reorganise my Research Page to have most of my academic papers accessible there, and structured according to topic.

I have also finally begun work on Finance and Economic Breakdown for Edward Elgar Publishers, which I hope to complete by late next year and have published in 2011. That will be my “magnum opus” development of Minsky’s Financial Instability Hypothesis, and of course my analysis of the GFC. It will be in a much more accessible format than this thesis–all equations confined to Appendices, and tabular and flowchart (read systems engineering) expositions of models in the text.

That’s the good news; the bad news is that, with this major writing and researching task on my plate, I won’t be as able to respond to blog posts as I currently am. But I’ll do my best, and Debtwatch will remain active as the book is written. At the very least, I’ll publish the monthly Debtwatch Report on the first Monday of the month.

Hi Steve, thought you might find this interesting. It’s a speech by SF Fed Pres. Janet Yellen entitled ‘A Minsky Meltdown: Lessons for Central Bankers’ on the 16th April 2009.
